IBB Polonia London returns to winning ways
On Sunday 13th February, IBB Polonia London played their latest Super League encounter. Playing at their home venue against Leeds Gorse, the win was a long five set encounter ending 3-2 (21:25; 23:25; 25:12; 25:14; 15:11), and with the win, the losing streak ended. The match was full of emotions and the atmosphere created by the spectators, in the venuewas electric.
The game started with the hosts struggling to find their collective feet and allowed the visitors to think they had a chance in the first two sets. They lacked rhythm, teamwork and confidence, but they kept working together. Greg Niski’s players found a streak of gold in the third set which gave them enough quality to turn the visitors over. The fans enjoyed the game and made a great atmosphere.
The Londoners will continue training following the victory to prepare for the next game. IBB Polonia London play away on 19th February in Durham, the current table toppers. It will be a big ask for the youngsters, but if they play as well as in the second half of today’s match; then everything is possible. The squad has really only worked together for a matter of weeks, and enjoyed the addition of a talented young libero George Ivanov.
Pro Volley Academy, which nine of the players are part of the senior men’s Super League team, and will continue training over the coming weeks and months. During the half term break, try-out trainings will take place to allow prospective 2022/23 new players to show their talents. Young players aged 16 and 17 should reply to the Head Coach at IBB Polonia London and also the school via the email address: coach@provolley.london or complete the form on https://provolley.london.
IBB Polonia London also continues to produce a number of off court events and activities: on Wednesday 16th February at 3PM, the second instalment of „The Volleyball Show” will be broadcast on BT Sport. IBB Polonia London is also planning a broadcast of the first episode on its own channels. News of this will be released on social media.
“It’s the second game in a row that we started badly, and then came together as a team, we started winning points and sets. We work hard to start in top gear, but we know we are a young group of players, and some things just take time. Overall, we played well; our young Pro Volley Academy players have made big strides recently. The receivers all played and made impacts, as did the middle who served a number of aces and made crucial blocks; one on match point against the visitors’ best player. I am proud of the players, because it’s another match that reflects the progress we have made together.” said Greg Niski, Head Coach at IBB Polonia London.
