Once again IBB Polonia London competes in Europe
The final trainings are underway before the start of the NEVZA Cup that starts on 8th February. Simon Loftus’ players are making their final preparations before they fly to Denmark for the weekend international event. The Londoners will be taking on some of the best teams from northern Europe.
IBB Polonia London has focussed very intently on these preparations during their practice sessions. Their form has been excellent leading into this event, as they are still undefeated this season in the UK.
“In the build up to the NEVZA Championship the team have played a couple of matches, one in the league and the quarterfinals of the Cup. In both games we have shown moments of very good Volleyball, however, we are still not consistent in what we do. This is due to the fact that we try to play in a manner that means we take risks and try to entertain” – commented IBB Polonia London Head Coach, Simon Loftus.
The teams that will compete in the tournament can certainly not be described as „easy”. A big club from Denmark BK Marienlyst will be the first challenge of the event. They are currently in top position in their domestic league. Following that are the less well known prospect of a team from Iceland – a nation who always overachieve in any sport they compete in.
“As for my goals for the competition I think we have a tough first match against Marienlyst and depending how we fair against such a good team will determine how far we can go in the competition” – added Loftus.
The whole club is eagerly anticipating the challenges that the weekend will bring.
“The club, staff and players are really excited about the prospect of playing against European opponents especially since the success of the European campaign of a couple of seasons ago” – finished IBB Polonia London Head Coach.
The event is the next in a series of demanding tasks ahead of The Club in the coming months. The Club is working on building the image of volleyball in the UK and establishing London on the global volleyball map. They would like sports fans to keep track of the results as they come
in and to support the players at every opportunity.
The matches are scheduled for the following times:
08/02/19 g. 20:15
IBB Polonia Londyn – BK Marienlyst
09/02/2019 g. 12:15
IBB Polonia Londyn – KA
All of the matches are available here.
This is not the first time IBB Polonia London is taking part in official international competitions. In 2016/17 they competed in the CEV Challenge Cup which concluded in a historic victory for the Londoners. Last season also saw The Club competing in the NEVZA Championships, but was not quite at the level required.
