Pro Volley players selected for England National Team and IBB Polonia
Pro Volley Academy never rests on its laurels. Training has been ongoing since September in order to fulfil its aims. The volleyball school worked hard for the first months to show that the promises offered during recruitment came to fruition.
The most recent evidence for this is the call up to the junior National England Team. Two of the nine players in Pro Volley Academy, Nahome Tewelde and Nathan Williams, received notification of their inclusion in Coach Keith Trenham’s short list for his training camp. The weekend camp took place on 22 and 23 May at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering.
The call ups are not the only success story for Pro Volley Academy; thanks to the union of volleyball and education, and to the personalised programme (still unique in England), the volleyball centre was, for a certain period during the pandemic, the only volleyball activity happening anywhere. During lockdown, volleyball didn’t stop; technical training as well as video analysis took place. Additionally, first friendly games ended in victory.
The young volleyball recruits from the Academy, will be counting on being included in the first team sessions for IBB Polonia London. There are currently three players considered of a high enough standard to find space on court.
The London volleyball centre has excellent feedback from its young recruits, and the coaches and teachers take care to ensure the student athletes develop both academically, mentally through a sporting context.
Recruitment for the next year is well underway, and the aim is to increase the standard of sport and competition amongst its players. Boys and girls who are seeking free sixth form education and an improvement in their volleyball standard are encouraged to apply. Dominik Żmuda, the coach with a wealth of experience, agrees that the method employed by the Academy guarantees stable successful progress.

„We are all very proud of the call up to the National Team of England for our players. This is more proof that our hard work is being rewarded. We trust that they will continue to develop and we are doing everything to help realise their dreams and volleyball aims. Let’s not forget that these call ups are not their only successes of the Academy. All of our players have made huge steps forward in this toughest of years, towards senior level volleyball. They have not only developed as players, and this can be seen in their results, but the correct mental approach can also be seen. These effects can already be seen, and I think that this will continue to show. We continually work on this, so that they think as professional players and thanks to this they will be prepared in a multi-faceted way for professional careers.” said Dominik Żmuda, Academy coach and assistant coach at IBB Polonia London.
„The first year of our long-term project is coming to an end and we have been delighted with our Sporting Excellence Academy partnership programme with IBB Polonia London. We have had players within the first cohort invited to National Team Selections which reflects on the quality coaching provision of the programme. The programme offers young aspiring athletes the chance to continue their education alongside specialist training, strength and conditioning and video analysis sessions preparing them for the world of professional sports. We have opened our recruitment process for the 2021/22 academic year and would invite anyone interested to get in touch.” said Emma Chambers from Future Stars Foundation, who is responsible for education at The Academy.
