The table leader, IBB Polonia London defeats the second placed team
The match which took place this Saturday, had been eagerly anticipated by the entire volleyball community in the UK. On 29th February 2020 in Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre, the two top teams in the country took each other on. IBB Polonia London, on the home court, won an epic encounter against Durham Palatinates 3-2 (25:21; 23:25; 25:17; 23:25; 15:12).
The standard of the match was of the highest order from start to finish. Both teams set out to make a good account of themselves, and the many fans who came from far and wide were not disappointed with the match. Indeed the team of Polonia Plymouth travelled five hours each way to watch their name sakes put on a volleyball show. For all five sets, both teams were evenly matched and neither could really dominate the other. Ultimately it was IBB Polonia London who managed to inflict the coup de gras in the fifth set and take the victory. Vangelis Koutouleas, the victorious Head coach led the team well and managed to continue the undefeated domestic run.
„We appreciate the fact that we were able to play so well against such a tough opponent. I can’t emphasise the quality of the opposition, and wish we had much more regular encounters as this throughout the season. It was a typical men’s match and represents volleyball in the UK very well. Matches like these are the way to make progress and to improve our level of volleyball. All of the squad was able to contribute and to make their mark on the match. We are close to fulfilling one of our objectives of the season. I hope all of our fans can stay with us until the very last serve of the season as we need their support.” Said IBB Polonia London 2nd Assistant Coach, Dominik Zmuda.
The next match is just around the corner. Tuesday, 3rd March IBB Polonia London play the local rivals Malory Eagles at the venue of the reigning champions of England (Brentford Fountain) at 7.30pm. Tickets are available online.
