The winning streak continues from day one of the season
It seems as though there is no team in the country to touch IBB Polonia London VC. The unbeaten run stretches back to December 2017 in the Regular season and May 2018 during the playoff phase of that year. Each game shows that in the Super League, there are no equals. Vangelis Koutouleas’ players had two matches this week. On Tuesday, 3rd March the match against Malory Eagles resulted in a quick 3-0 win, and on 7th March an equally economical performance against Richmond Docklands, produced another perfect 3-0 showing.
The Tuesday match was always going to result in a win, and IBB Polonia London quickly pushed through their local rivals Malory Eagles. The home team put on a show of serving and blocking and controlled the game from the first serve. The game was over in little more than an hour with result 3-0 (25:16; 25:18; 25:18).
On Saturday, 7th March, the opposition was another London based team: Richmond Docklands. At first, the game was evenly played by both teams, but despite a good showing from Richmond, it wasn’t enough to challenge the current Champions of England. IBB Polonia London looked on top form and maintained their good form. The home team did their best to dictate the rhythm of the game, and fought tooth and nail for every ball. Both teams attacked very well, and the fans really enjoyed the power on display. But the result seems a foregone conclusion, and IBB Polonia was the stronger team at the end of each set. Concentration and excellent teamwork resulted in the second great win of the week 0-3 (22:25; 18:25; 22:25).
These two victories strengthened the grip on first place, a position held since the first match of the season. The London based team should be delighted with the impressive domination that is slowly edging them towards another National title. Over thirteen matches, only two league points have been lost through winning matches 3-2.
The next match is on 21st March in their home venue in the SuperLeague against Sheffield Hallam. The details will be available on the usual social media channels and this website. Despite a two week break in their schedule, IBB Polonia London will not rest from training. The Greek head coach has a few ideas that he wants to focus on at trainings to continue the run of good form in the closing two months of the season. There are still two goals for the season: winning the SuperLeague and the National Cup.
