The winning streak for IBB Polonia London continues in the build up to the CEV Cup
The last in the series of wins for the current Champion of England, against Tendring Essex, was a good indicator for the imminent CEV Cup competition. The team from London joined the competition, after failing to beat the Croatian champions: Mladost Zagreb in the first round of the Champions League.
Vangelis Koutouleas’ players took on the team from Colchester, Essex and swiftly despatched them 3:0 (25:22; 25:20; 25:21). Thanks to their determined play and concentration, three more points were added to the league table for IBB Polonia London and maintained their lead at the top of the SuperLeague division. Following the win, the players should take on the challenge of Draisma Dynamo with confidence in the 1/16th round of the CEV Cup on Wednesday, 11th December. The second of the matches which takes the victor through to the 1/8th round takes place on Thursday 19th December 2019 at 7 PM in the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace, the second home of IBB Polonia London VC. Tickets are available online. The prize for winning the round is a mighty match against either Lokomotiv Novosibirisk in Russia or Chaumont VB in France.
“I am delighted with the win and to be able to be the undisputed leader in the table. The Saturday result shows that we have the consistency and talent to be able to take on the Dutch opponents. We have already played them, however we couldn’t quite get past them. I am confident that this time we have the ability to overturn them. On Wednesday we play Draisma Dynamo and aim to beat them. In sport, everything is possible and this is why I believe that we will show the public some great volleyball to take us into the next round of this prestigious event. Our fans will still have the chance to see us play an international match on home soil. We really want them to come and support us. They have never let us down and they help generate the incredible atmosphere. The first batch of tickets has quickly sold out, and I hope the next phase goes just as quickly. I would like to invite everybody to Crystal Palace, to come and spend time with us” said Bartek Luszcz, Chairman of IBB Polonia London.
„IBB Polonia London continues to push the envelope of what was unimaginable in volleyball in the UK a few years ago. Following on from the Challenge Cup victories, the NEVZA Cup win and the incredible show in the Champions League last month, I would like to add my own personal invitation to all volleyball fans to help send us through to the next round. The match should be exciting. Last time that we played Draisma Dynamo we beat them 3-2. Both squads have changed, and we feel we have more to offer. IBB Polonia London is currently undefeated in the UK this season and we want to challenge ourselves even further. We are not scared of this type of opponent. Please join me in Crystal Palace on the 19th December and show your support!” – said Chris Hykiel, IBB Polonia London Director of Volleyball.
IBB Polonia London has already played the Dutch opponents. The teams faced each other in the 1/8 round of the CEV Challenge Cup in 2016/17, when Draisma Dynamo Apeldoorn were the eventual winners. Despite that, the British team consider that event as one of the most successful following on after they eliminated FINO Kaspovar in a dramatic golden set in the previous round.
There is only one domestic match left before the festive season: 14th december 2019 against the second placed team – Durham Palatinates. The game starts in Durham at 4pm.
