We continue on winning ways domestically

On Saturday 20th November, IBB Polonia London played the most recent encounter in England and defeated Newcastle Staffs 3-0 (25:13; 25:19; 25:23). Some of the squad from Bełchatów travelled to play in London and joined the prodigies from Pro Volley Academy on court.

The Saturday game started very strongly and IBB Polonia controlled the match from the very first serve. The opposition was unable to deal with the power and pressure placed upon them and gave up a ten point advantage to the Champions of England. The same large margin occurred during the second set, but to their credit the team from the north never gave up and closed the margin a little. The IBB Polonia London coach gave more and more opportunities rot the junior players to gain on court experience and as a result the third set was a much closer affair. Ultimately the favourites won the set, but by only two points. Consequently, three more points were notched up on the Super League table.

For the Pro Volley Academy players it was a very busy weekend. Apart from the Saturday game, the youngsters played ion a London League game on Friday evening and also the qualifying tournament for the Student Cup. Four games were played with University teams; the squad were placed in a group with the eventual winners of the entire tournament. The team found the encounter demanding and couldn’t always match the older players, but gained a lot of valuable experience and finished in third place.

„I was one of the coaches at all the matches over the three days and am delighted with the games and the results. I am particularly pleased with the Academy players and how they played despite a solid match schedule, they always had big smiles on their faces. I could see improvement from game to game and this is the purpose of our program. I am totally convinced that as long as they keep training and playing, a professional career is on the cards” said Gregory Niski: Coach at Pro Volley since September 2021.

The next match for the Champions will take place this weekend. On Saturday 27th November, IBB Polonia London travel to local rivals Richmond Docklands to play the next league match. The match should be interesting as the opposition is filled with players from the previous season for IBB Polonia London. The game is scheduled to start at 6pm local time (7pm Warsaw time).

The squad who was based in Bełchatów since August is slowly starting to leave Poland following the CEV Cup defeat and the elimination from European matches. More details will be available soon.
